About the photo
As soon as I saw that the theme was "Square", I took a walk arounf the house and looked for motifs, but no matter where I looked, the choice was obvious. A square vase in a square IKEA shelf. The rough edge at the top of the vase, was just enough to break the evenness :)Sitting on a pile of photos from weeks holiday, I was in retouch mode, far far inside Photoshop & Lightroom, so no other motifs showed up...
Technical details
At first I spent a little time studying the scene, figuring out how to combine the different lines and finding that perfect composition.I used the Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens wide open to get that background nice out of focus :)
The photo straight out of the camera was quite yellow, after all, we like a nice warm light in our living room ;) I dragged the white balance all the way down to 2000K, to get this blue colorcast. I always shoot in RAW and convert my photos to the Adobe DNG file format, therefore a manipulation like that is possible :)
